Over the summer I decided I wanted to work on a project to learn React and I felt that this was the perfect opportunity. Over the course of a couple of weeks I built a working version using React and hosted it on AWS Amplify. I used old paintings for the hero images because I was afraid I would be sued for copyright infringement if I used anything else (image generation models were not as good at the time as they are now). This was my first time ever programming in React or JavaScript and I immediately enjoyed it.
I publicly released the website when secondary schools began in September but it never really took off. I think this taught me a lot about how difficult it is to market things to consumers.
The student niche is particularly hard because it is already oversaturated in many ways and students are probably not using websites like Product Hunt or Hacker News. Perhaps I could have gained more traction with a large social media marketing campaign, but I enjoyed having the website free to use.
